A railway embankment...ummm, I hope you put up all the correct scaffolding, wore protective footwear along with Hi-Vis jacket and of course let's not forget the warning signs "Danger - enamelled sign collector at work"

Or maybe you just had common sense and took care, remember those days, pre HSE?

When I look back and think about how I retrieved some signs back in the 1970s. One in particular stands out. I cycled on my mums bike and unscrewed a mint Sweet Rosemary thermometer from a tobacconist that was right next door to a police station. 11 pm on Christmas Eve about 40 years ago in SE London !

The battery room one is almost certainly telephone exchange related. Our local derelict exchange had the same sign but with the colours reversed..

It still happens Fred, its just a little harder to find them nowadays and generally you need a long ladder!..

Fred, this is just so sweet, what a xmas present eh? I love hearing stories about how people have obtained their signs; There should be a section on here dedicated to it...
