Hi guys,

We've had these in my back garden since we moved in 20 years ago.

Thought it was about time i find out some information about them. If anyone has any knowledge on them i would love to know more.

As you can see there is a fair amount of rust around the edges which is a shame.

Thanks,

Luke

Hi There,
The Walters is about 1920. Weekly Sun is probably a little older.
I am a big collector of toffee stuff and would love to buy the sign if its for sale.
My direct email is jezmactastic@hotmail.com
Cheers,
Jeremy

Hi Luke. That Walters sign is mega rare, I've never seen another, with this rarity in mind and the fact it's pictorial make it highly desirable. Thanks for showing

I'm pretty sure one of the Palm Toffee signs was featured in a collecting magazine or newsletter some years back, (can't remember which, unfortunately,) but as the others have pointed a rare sign indeed: nice subject, pictorial, and priced! Condition is reasonable too. A nice thing!

THanks.
I looked and could find one other sign for walters' toffee, but it was just text, no pictures . . Which led me to believe this would be more desirable.
Nice site here, some really interesting pieces.

If anybody as any queries my email is luke_hooters@hotmail.co.uk

WOW !!! and WOW !!!

It's very rare for me to see an enamel that I would keep as I usually stick to showcards and tin signs. The Walters is absolutely gorgeous and for me is one of the best enamel signs ever to appear on this site. I love it !!!

Alan

 Neil,

Your comments jogged my memory too,and I have just spent an hour scouring through my old mags etc.(Yes,I know it's sad,but there's not many trains to spot out here).

So for you old-timers,yes Marcus, that includes you,the back page of Street Jewellery Review 63,dated Nov 2002,has a very good image of the Palm Toffee sign. It's Fred Brumby's and was for sale, but I doubt if he's still got it now!

Regards

C

I once had one of these Walters signs probably 10 or12 years ago. Dave Huxtable brought some signs to Newark one Summer for Steve Burton to look at and I bought through Steve. It's not an English made sign though.Anyway I later fell out of love with it, and sold it back to steve. From memory it then went to Clive ,he may still have it.  When I next see CARTERS  I'm going to clip his ear!

Unfortunately the Street Jewellery Society became defunct in 2010,It had a few hundred members, and relied on volunteers to produce a newssheet/magazine every 3 months

I produced the magazine in the late 80s and into the 90s when it went from being photocopied to being properly printed with the colour pic stuck to the cover.
Funnily enough I resubscribed a number of years ago and only ever received one mag from Mr Morley!
Shame really but now we're all ont t'internet its less likely to ever get a mag going again. I still have all my old copies from 80s and 90s. Would love more...just to complete my set. I've got up to about 1994.
