Anybody got any good tips on what is best for removing previous paint infill on chips? I was thinking of something that would eat the paint away rather than have to scrub it. I want the chips to be as they were unrestored so I want to remove the paint and get back to metal/rust. Perhaps aircraft paint stripper?? Don't want to damage enamel.

Tips...sugestions????

A good quality paint stripper will do the job just fine and will not damage the enamel. When using paint stripper it works a lot better if you put a sheet of plastic over it once the stripper has been applied. This traps the solvents in and it works a lot better. I have used cling wrap, known as Glad Wrap in this part of the world and it works a treat. Leave it on for for about 1/2 hour and you should be able the brush the paint out of the chips with a stiff brush. If there is still paint in them just re-apply more stripper and put the cling wrap back on, repeat as many times as it takes to get rid of the paint.

Allan.

Hello Mick,

I agree one hundred per cent with Alan and I use tin foil over the stripper which works exactly the same as glad wrap. That method also works really well when stripping chair legs etc as it traps the solvents just as Alan suggested.

George Grant
