This was an Exhibition of window shop fronts in Shrewsbury, taken by Joseph Lewis Della Porta in 1888. It was mentioned in the local paper last week and has been on show since September at the Shrewsbury Theatre 7 but due to finish on 5th of this month. I visited it today andf it was very interesting. Took a few photo's with the phone camera which are not great but thought I would show a few.

 Hi sign-seeker & richard,

Glad you like the pictures. My photo's don't do them justice but it gives a flavour of the period and the sort of items they sold. The H.Shaw photo looks as though he has a stuffed long-horn cow head as the centre piece of his window display and "Coracles" leaning against his wall!!

(ps) Happy New Year Richard.

 HI BACCO,

LOVELY PICTURES, THE DAYS WHEN ITEMS COULD BE LEFT OUTSIDE & NOT GET STOLEN OR SMASHED UP.

Hi Bacco, Love the photos you've posted. Looking at the pork butcher's shop it reminded me of a tale my Dad used to tell. He had a shop next door to an old butcher and he was just closing up Saturday lunch time, the butcher's was already closed, when a couple attracted his attention asking if he knew the butcher next door. Dad said " Of course, why" The couple told him that they had seen ( through the shop window), mice playing about on his sausage machine and they thought this should be brought to the butcher's attention.

Dad said he would do so and promptly told the butcher first thing Monday morning saying that he should get rid of the mice or he would be closed down permanently by the environmental health people. The butcher ( a fairly laid back character apparently) agreed and said he would take action.

Later in the week my Dad asked the butcher if he'd sorted out his mouse problem

to which he replied he had so Dad asked what he'd done and the butcher replied " I've bought a blind!!!"

What the eye doesn't see.............!!

Cheers Broadie
