I was outbid on it, made the classic mistake of sitting there bidding at the auction end bidding, It wasn't well described at all in the listing. I was hoping it was one of those that had slipped under the radar

Sorry don't understand your comment " made the classic mistake of sitting there bidding at the auction " Surely if you really really want it thats the place to be bid, win, pay and take it home ?

The winner at any auction, is the person who is prepared to pay more than anyone else. I have said this before but its important - especially if you are going to sell that item one day. You could leave everything to the kids, if you have any. I definitely paid too much for some signs back in the 1980s.
