Out of curiosity I wonder what the spike was for - was it just decoration or could it be used as a bayonet?

Jimbo,

These were worn only by the 3rd German Dwarf battalion who would assault foreign troops around the buttocks.

The tips were often coated with poison, many opposition troops were killed outright or suffered terrible festering wounds around their lower quarters

Just sold the pickelhaube for a bargain price of £445, I can't keep everything, and I threw in the spurs,,nice things but not what I collect,,I will put the cash towards a Wild West revolver.
