In all honesty, I wasn’t holding out much hope for the October BBR as I though everyone must still be busy and skint after such a good summer.
I had booked a stall to promote the pot lid sale this coming Saturday and sell a few bits of advertising. Alan was most welcoming despite me being a potential rival and set me up with a great pitch next to an exit for easy loading, unloading. I left Worcestershire at 4.30am it took an age for the sun to come up and promise a fine day for everyone. Amazingly I was early, and everything ran like clockworks thanks to the professionalism of AB and the team.
Almost immediately I managed to buy a few signs in the queue and everyone seemed in good spirits. Due to stall holders also wanting to walk around buying stuff, the show managed an initial flurry but with new stalls opened every few minutes. This made it good to keep walking around despite the fact there was no outside pitches.
I picked up some unusual bottles, cheap lids and a few enamel signs all unusual at or around market value and then heard of a rare Canterbury Brewery enamel. I managed to track it down and give a well known collector a profit on it and was dead chuffed to get it.
Then came a bit of a downer as I got caught selling a spare stallholders pass – this is not allowed – sorry folks, just didn’t want to lose £12 (I’m so tight).
Then came the public and it gave the show a real buzz, couldn’t get near most stalls so, after leaving a load of bids in the auction, set up my pitch as the travelling salesman. Met all the collectors who had contacted me RE the pot lid sale and had a good natter, whilst giving out over 100 free posters and fliers.
All in all it was good show for everyone I spoke too and had a great laugh to boot.
Cheers.
Al.
