I think you folks are being a bit harsh. How many motor manufacturers were there in 1905? Its a sign from one of the first motor manufacturers, British, pictorial and in good nick. A damn site more historically important than any of these petrol and oil signs everyone goes mad about. Its also probably unique. A bit of Art Nouveau too, you can't go wrong.

You've all been told, by Leo Sayer himself.

For anyone interested in the company history (rather than Leo Sayer!) here's a link:
http://www.scotiaweb.co.uk/argyll/p...page1.html
I would never have guessed the date of the sign could be co earlY! (ie. pre 1908!)
OK! I admit the likeness is striking Al! |

Good info chaps, I take Al's point but personally however rare it still has to appeal to my eye. Would'nt be for my wall even at a tenth the price !!
Mind you I would'nt have bought it at that either !! even to sell. So shows how little I know.

Even the biggest rock stars don't like being taken out of context.
Here is the original pic with Arthur Brown (From The Crazy World of Arthur Brown) and Nik Turner (Hawkwind)

I read the history of Argyll Motors and it is an interesting story. I could see how this sign would be worth a fair bit to the right collector but agree that 5,000 pounds does seem a little outrageous. Personally, I agree with Al. I like the sign and would happily hang it in my home but I also have a Naga headhunter in my sitting room.
Al, you certainly do take some good natured grief from the AA members so I apologize for the following.
