Shredded Wheat has been available in America since the 1890's but didn't reach British stores until 1926 when a factory was built in Welwyn Garden City. Of the original factories, two are in Niagara Falls, New York and one was located in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada. They were built in this area to take advantage of the hydro electric power supplied by the Niagara River. One of these factories was dubbed the "Palace of Light" because of how clean and modern it was.
The following box is from 1939 and has survived in near mint condition but it holds a bit of a mystery for me. On the box it says 12 biscuits, 12 ounces but this box is 15 inches across. Far too big for just 12 biscuits. So, is this a packing case that would have held a number of 12 biscuit boxes, or, is it a display box? I have searched in vain for an example like this on the internet. Perhaps it's a fake? (I don't think so)
Here's some Shredded Wheat humour.
What do you get if you run a budgie over with a lawnmower?

I placed a small Coral Flake tin on the box to show the size of this box.
The following picture shows the actual Palace of Light factory. It looks much nicer on the box.
