Salmon, Gluckstein & Co, founded in 1845 manufacturing Tobacco & Cigars at Clerkenwell Rd and 34, Whitechapel, E. In 1873, moved into retail in a big way and in 1896 were one of the first firms to manufacture cigarettes by machinery in London. The factory, plant etc were eventually  sold outright to the I T C. Their tins and packets are very collectible. Popular brands were "Snake Charmer" - "Dandy Fifth" - "Life Boat" etc etc. "Old Mahogany" brand introduced in 1899 as shown in brochure. Not sure how "Navy Cut" got in there

 Hi Broadie,

Your quite right they are very colourful tins. I remember now why I put the "Navy Cut" advert in but forgot the picture of the tin.
