Absoluty love this !
An old boy in our village told me about a wooded piece of land just a 2 minute walk from me that was a large old Victorian tip – used after the original sand pits where shutdown. The original landowner then sold the land off many years ago, by breaking it up into lots of tiny parcels to apparently scupper it being large scale developed in the future. The problem would be trying to get land owners permission to dig as there could be as many as 40 of them in a small area…

Supposedly there is a steam-shovel that was left behind and buried as it was deemed too difficult or expensive to remove it when the sand pits were shutdown. Who knows what other treasures may be down there! As far as I know, no one has dug there as it’s history as a tip is only known by a few people.
From your experience Alan, how do you go about finding landowners of such places?

Hi Phoneguy we just tend to ask around locally someone usually knows or if it's a rural area best people to ask are farmers they tend to know who owns what |
