This Player's "Magnum" cigarette tin is in very good condition and one you don't see very often. Player's introduced "Magnums" in 1898. They were hand made and initially came in packets of 8. They were withdrawn early 30s as it was no longer cost effective to make hand-made cigarettes. I'm sure that there must other size tins. If you have one post a picture.

Super tin Bacco, such good nick too. I've seen a few of the Hand Made varieties but don't own any.

Does the Magnum refer to the size of the tin or the size of the cigarettes?

There's a flat 20 on ebay at the moment. Not great condition though.

 Hi hilbert,

"Magnum" as far as I know refers to the size of the cigarette which were handmade. As you can see from my posted picture, the different size in the tins and both contained 100 cigarettes although both made by hand, one is much smaller than the other. I would imagine that the "Gold Leaf" were machine manufactured even though they pre-date (1887) the "Magnums" by 1 yr.

Hi  Bacco and Hilbert. One of my favorite tins, a great iconic image.

Nice one Brodie.

The middle one in the bottom row looks significantly smaller than the rest. Is it flatter too?

 Hi Broadie,

I like your "Navy Blue"  and your thin 10 tins, both quite rare. Have posted some of my other tins. The "Player's Navy Cut" in blue textis pre ITC and slightly smaller but both 50s. The "Navy Mixture" in centre-back is a dummy tin and the Player's "Navy Cut" De  Luxe was introduced in 1925.

Hi Bacco, nice to see all the variations of the Players tin in other collections. Broadies blue "gold tipped" has eluded me for years! Here are a couple I have now. Not seen many of the small Navy Mixture.

Thanks Broadie, I'll be on the look out for one of them and swap out my gold leaf.

Nice little Navy Mixture Cabs. Sweet.

Nice tins everyone.  Here are one or two more on the same theme. I think the 9 pkt is interesting as they have taken a cigarette out instead of putting the price up. Cheers Broadie.
