 I see there is one coming up for auction which has a supplmental 'OPEN' plate which could be placed over the sign to conceal the 'CLOSED' word at the top. Makes obvious sense but it is the first time I have come across this 'accessory'. Certainly looks to be original enamel and the letter typeface is identical

Wow!! I’ve certainly never seen that before.
I do wonder if its genuine though? You’d think with the number of Hudson’s Soap collectors out there, that an example would have turned up before now in someone’s collection?
Still am I’m happy to be corrected.

 as its a separate piece they all got lost 

or was hudsons sold in america as well as uk and this extra piece only available there

or was it just made as a one off ?

This looks like its homemade. The coulors are wrong. And undamaged???? A piece that comes off every day!!

Would not surprise me if it is just painted metal.
