A lot ... but if a good 5 boys is 2 - 4K (feel free to correct ) then I guess £1,800 for black cat in lovely condition (but not a1) is sort of there (?) .. jumped up quite late , maybe x2 people put in high bids .. it's the sort of sign that sits on the kitchen wall for a lifetime imo. Cig

As you say, lovely condition but I wasn’t 100% sure the surface gloss was that good. Difficult to tell from photographs. In any event, I imagine the seller was well pleased!

The price is around what I was expecting. When someone really has decided they are going to have something things can become distorted. I paid 'top dollar' for a few signs back in the 1980s. And finally, the HAMMER price is what ONE person only is prepared to pay.

My Black Cat is as good as this one but it cost me £18 in 1978 - I thought it was expensive at the time as most cigarette packet signs in tip top condition were usually £15. I bought a very good Fry's 5 Boys around the same time for £50!

Yep same as that, two sizes, promised the larger one to my daughter.
Had the one with the red band on the pack too.
Classic sign and that eBay one looks well nice!

I'm still looking for a really good narrower one to make up the pair. I already have an almost mint 36 x 24.

Glad I bought mine a while back.

Although this reminds me of a nightmare story my Uncle told me a couple of years ago, when he knew I had one in my collection. He used to deal a bit in scrap and one visit to a local scrap yard in the late 1970's came across a black cat enamel, still wrapped in paper packaging and mint. Bloke at scrap yard gave it him, but he then sold it a few weeks later for a few quid!

Needless to say, this sad family tale, gave me many sleepless nights and nightmares afterwards and still does.

People pay £60,000 to £70,000 for an upmarket Family Saloon car, for which in some areas you could buy a couple of decent houses so who knows ?

In many respects everything is over priced or underpriced

Always amazes me when you can buy a Kiwi fruit in a Supermarket for 8 pence !! thats been flown half way around the world.

I reckon it was a nice sign, about a grand too much ....but who cares if the buyer is happy and can afford it

It's just timing, I'm sure I have recently seen a couple of good ones going through Ebay for under 800.

Some years ago there was a really mint one came on ebay from a seller in York - found in a skip many years before apparently. I vaguely recall it made c.£1k?. I was abroad on holiday at the time and missed it completely, which is not like me usually.
