There must have been so many of these shaped signs for the old buses - I wonder what happened to them all. This is the first one I've seen on eBay. There seem to be hardly any of them around now but they're on every single bus you see in old photographs of London. I suppose they probably got smashed up along with the buses each time one was put out of service.

Here's one survivor Hinkslamps. It lives in the corner of my garage .  On iron , it's dated February 1909 .

I would also like a bar of chocolate beacause there are clearly 5 partially obscured signs not 4 !

I hit a seam of shaped bryant and may matches ones in a London tip. The digger bucket tooth went through the first one and pulled them out like a pack of cards.

I think the companies had contracts with the trams etc and when these were up, all the signs we commercially disposed of not like the odd one off a shop.

Cheers

Al

That's really interesting to hear about the Bryant and May signs. That makes sense in relation to what you said about contracts. They were all got rid of in one go. And that would also explain why there seem to be so few of them around. There must be loads of them still buried under London and elsewhere.
