Bit late replying Lummox---just noticed your posting---- like Bulldog stuff , and that looks in top nick.
This one's a bit different to the usual Worthingtons---by Wedgwood, and pre 1889, as Worthingtons became limited company in that year. |

I've been asked by a forum member if it's for sale----sorry, I like coasters and have a few---My reply to you was returned by the Mail Server as unable to deliver.
Another version of this design was made, exactly the same format, but with another beer brand in the middle.

Felinfoel Brewery,nr Llanelli-----At 5.25 inches, it's smaller than most, Mintons records showing it was produced as a Jug Stand, which I believe is the correct name for them. |

I had four of these with different wordings. I also with the help of two very knowledgeable Welsh collectors, one having written a book on Welsh breweriana advertising did some research on them and all agreed in the end that they were ashtrays. I suppose we will never really be certain. |

Interesting Once had one of these and it was exactly the same dimensions as an ' Englands Glory ' matchbox ashtray, both by Mintons so I think you could be right NWC Lummox |

Thanks NWC and Lummox-----I've looked up the letter, and they said that they believe it is a bottle stand rather than a cash tray--cash, not ash----what's the difference between a coaster and a bottle stand?. I'm no expert, but if it is an ash tray, you would expect to see indendations round the edge for the cigarettes to rest on.
I don't know what it is, but I like it, along with a pub jug I have from the same brewery. |

Yes...........Its breweriana ! thats what matters
To be fair lots of ashtrays don't have cig slots, but then again lots do
Many people suggest coasters were in fact Siphon Stands
Whatever alot of them are stunning, always seems a shame that whatever their use they were usually mostly covered ?
