Hello to all fellow collectors and enthusiasts.

It has been some time since I posted anything so I thought I'd offer my two bobs worth. I would like to show a few restoration jobs that I have done and I acknowledge that my style may not suit all collectors I like to give the signs a new life hence I don't mind tackling jobs that need a total redo.

First an explanation. The Dangar Gedye sign is of an iconic Australian Company that supplied the rural industry for well over a century. When I got the sign it was knackered and I think may have been in a fire and quite bent. Whilst it is probably mostly painted now it does have a life again. The Coopers's Lion was also ready for the tip and now is proudly in my collection, same with Quibells Dip.

The last photo is of two Coopers dip signs that are slightly different and very collectable. One I got here in Australia and one came from South Africa. Both needed work.

Regards, George Grant

You're clearly a talented man, George, and I share your view some signs warrant sensitive restoration - the sort of signs you could go a lifetime without finding another example for sale. Nice work. I also find it theraputic and strangely addictive, but like Al, I often pull my hair out trying to match deep navy blues and bright yellows in particular! Did you completely re-paint these signs, or did you leave the intact areas of enamel? Also, did you do the detail work with brushes, or pens? All the best. Dunc

exellent repairs you've done there, im doing my first repair at the mo and know how hard it can be, but also like dunc says how theraputic aswell.  i was talking about your brilliant collection thats shown on Als advertising antiques.com only last nite to a mate, its great to see a few more of your cracking signs, i  like the lion one and especially like the coopers ones, the bloke on there looks like eddie the ozzy i know from down my lotty!
the Dangar cedye is an interesting one as they must have been using motors etc, from a company from where us locals call the valleys,   ie, stroud, dursley etc.  thats a long way to source things from! heres a pic of a Lister sign and thanks again for the pics ill hopefully have one to stick up before this years out, lol

Hi George

I think the record number of replies in just a few hours illustrates just how highly all us members appreciate your time and effort.

Absolutely FANTASTIC WORK !! keeping ' alive ' examples of poor , rare or just plain unafordable signs.

I WISH I had half your restoration talents !!

As to ' not everyones cup of tea ' ...........Your signs and collection are exactly that YOURS !! do with them and display them exactly how you like them.

All the best Lummox
