Yep definitely been straightened .. hard to get rid of the kink I’d say .. rare thing .

I don't mind old damage but it's sad to see new damage on such an old and rare sign.
But I wouldn't try to restore it.

 A well executed restoration would be justifiable in this case,I think. Would certainly make it easier on the eye , and likely enhance its value if you were to sell it on .Rare and highly desirable sign .
