Just thought I'd share a picture of a sign my wife and I acquired this weekend. Very happy with it. The question is do we leave the chip to his chin alone or sympathetically restore?

I WOULD RESTORE THAT FACE - ESPECIALLY AS YOU HAVE EXCELLENT REFERENCE AVAILABLE FROM THE OTHER ONE BUT I WOULD LEAVE THE REST OF IT ALONE

I  would be tempted to leave well alone , it's not as noticeable as the bullet hole in his stomach , and as that doesn't seem to be offending you  , I wouldn't bother . It's a proper eyeful is that , a great sign .

Don't usually agree with restoration but on this occasion I would, and if you ever sell it uve got before and after pics so the new buyers can see the extend of the repair which in this case will be pretty minimal

Is the blue hue the result of UV fading? There are areas of black that are sharp and crisp (Area by "F" as example), or was it designed to be like this?

That's just a combination of the gloss and the harsh reflections when I took the photo, the blue is perfectly uniform all the way across. It was inside a barn for years so hasn't really suffered from fading.

Great sign James !

I think it comes down to whether you can live with it like that. I am one who believes in doing touchups, but having said that, I have got signs that I don't mind the damage on and have left alone.

I would restore the chip on the face .. as that is where your eye is drawn to . Leave the rest of it as is  . Great sign .

Yeah I think that's what I'm leaning towards. The rest of it looks fine. At least the restoration is reversible on enamels.

Cheers everyone!
