The Co-operative Wholesale Society have had their own brands of tobacco & cigarettes since 1898, which were produced in Manchester up to the 1960s and the Scottish CWS at Shieldhall, Glasgow since 1914. The early brands were "Navy Cut Extra Fine Virginia" and although very popular was superseded by another popular brand "Raydex". Other brands included "Silk Cut", "Linden Mixture", "Beatall Flake" and many others. Although there packets and tins were not particularly pictorial they are often of a striking design with familiar CWS colours of red & blue, or blue on white, red on green etc. Scottish CWS brands are "Cogent","Shipmate" and "Scottish Gold Flake" and many others. I have not come across any showcards or other forms of advertising for CWS brands. It would be nice to see  members post some pictures of the CWS brands. I have posted a few of my tins to start:

Nice "Cogent" enamel that broadie. Not seen one before. Those "Cut Golden Bar" tins look to be in good condition. I have posted another couple of tins. "Golden Flake" and an early paper label Army & Navy Co-operative Society tin.

Here's a couple of SCWS from the archive. Iffy image quality I'm afraid.

 Hi Mario,

Your C.W.S "Light Shag" tobacco, was one of many variants manufactured with paper-labels and introduced around 1915-20. There is a good range of C.W.S tins which make a good collection on their own. Have posted a couple more.

Note: The "Convoy Flake" tin is not C.W.S it is Casket Tobacco & Cigarette Co, but for some reason I was unable to delete it.

Bacco, love the cylindrical tin.

Is it about the same size as a shaving stick tin?

Seems an unlikely, at least unusual, shape for a tobacco tin.
