I had a tray thread going before the site crashed. As I acquired new trays I would add to it. I have a couple of new trays but since I am not sure if the old topics are coming back I decided to just do the whole lot over again. Let's start with my 3 favourites.

Hi Dan

The tray is in great condition and the asking price is incredible but I am just not getting that gotta have it rush so I will pass this time. I do appreciate the offer and the time you took to photograph it.

If anyone else has any interesting trays in good condition please don't hesitate to email me. The only thing I won't do is make an offer. Your item. Your price.

Vlad

PS  According to the member count there are now 121 of us registered on the site but most of the posting is by the same group of people. Come on folks, let's see some of your stuff and don't be intimidated by the fact that some of the items posted are rare or expensive or spectacular. I can't speak for other collector's but I have a passion for all advertising and it doesn't have to be older than my granny or rarer than an honest politician.

Hi Relics

I never expected an Australian to make an Alfred E. Neuman reference, but you are right. For those who don't know who Alfred is, he is a sort of mascot for a satirical American magazine that has been around since the early 50's called "MAD". His image has graced the cover of almost every issue and his catch phrase is "What, me worry?"

Long before Mad magazine or the brewery tray similar images of a goofy faced, gap toothed character were used in American advertising. Here's part of a 1908 Antikamsia tablets calendar featuring such a character.

An even earlier character, known as "The Yellow Kid" came on the scene around 1895 as a part of a comic strip. He was a huge hit and was used to advertise everything from cigars to whiskey.

The character on my Canadian brewery tray was known as "The Handsome Waiter" and was also used by some American breweries. Here's one from The Hampden Brewing Co. Same character but he has two glasses of beer on his tray instead of a single bottle of beer.

G'day Vlad

Alfred E Neuman probably had some influence on my collecting passion.

I had a collection of Mad magazines as a kid . Mad was very popular in Australia.

So I guess I can blame Alfred E Neuman , but , " What me worry " ?
