hi all , i have the chance to buy this sign and have just found out that a company called Garnier of London made repoduction enamel signs , and dont want to make an expesive mistake!! i think its genuine but would like a second opinion, any help would of great help 

 

 

 

 

That looks genuine to me. The red stencilled number on the back indicates it was made by Chromo Wolverhampton.

I remember a lot of years ago one almost identical condition appeared on Ebay.
The seller put up his phone number, which said to me he wanted to do a deal off of Ebay.
I called him from OZ and he said he wanted $500 pounds. I said I'll take it and when he gets a price on freight I will do a bank transfer into his account.
The next day I called him and someone else snuck in and offered him $1000 cash and he took it.
A week later it was back on Ebay and made $2,500.

I did manage to see the pics of the blue & white 5boys sign last night at a quick glance..didnt reply as we had company and didnt want to be rude..From what i saw it was v.small,in a cheap looking frame (sorry to offend)..The faces were outstanding,,fantastic detail as they should be unlike repops..Fixing holes were cock on.cant remember how many there were?..back of sign needed looking at couple of times (if u know what i mean)..very very clean back with only a couple of odd placed enamel drip marks..looks as if it was never outside on display? There was as Hinks said a red square patch of enamel,,like a manufactors mark..To me the sign looked The Real deal.well done to the new owner on getting it..

To be honest i could fully understand if he said No im not posting pics for others to view and add fuck all back to the forum..No else seems to give a fuck on here..Has Oddball posted pics of the sign Anywhere else to get good honest advice? Hi guys, sorry for the blip with the photos, I've reloaded them and any info on the stencil on the back would be good to learn about! Thanks for all your previous remarks, @fleece77 just want to say that it's definitely not your old sign as I know the provenance of it, it hasn't left the UK and has only had one other owner since the 70s.

thanks for the info , and picture mine measures 46x30cm approx . is the red stencil a common mark for chromo wloverhampton? any way of dating it ?

Chromo Wolverhampton is the only maker I know of that had blobs of paint with stencilled numbers on the back. Not sure what the numbers mean…don’t think they’re dates. They could possibly be the catalogue number of the sign. Seems they mostly used yellow paint on the back…red relatively rare.
