Can anyone date this for me...and perhaps what it was used for.

I have had it since the 1970's...dug up from a bank on the side of a canal where I believe the dredgings were dumped.

kind regards

The early hand formed lip finish would probably date it to around 1900/1910. It contained disinfectant (hence the Not to be taken warning) and was marketed in that distinctive shape to rival the market leader of the day Lysol who used the same shape. That type, (aqua colour, earlier lip finish, warning dots on body) is a little bit scarcer than the norm, most of this dotted type are later machine made examples in brown.
Have you been back to that canal???

Thanks for the info Kiwihunter appreciate it

I haven’t been back but I do know that the site has remained undisturbed since that time.

I collected about a dozen or so bottles back then from beer (a pub near by) pop marble and ceramics. I really didn’t have to dig for them either as it was by chance that I spotted some of them protruding through the surface.

I checked on goggle last night as a matter of fact and the site is as is. I don’t know how many years dredging had been going on in that area but as the canal is over 200 years old I would guess there is much to find. I think I am going to wonder up there with my trowel next week and see.

Thanks again

I have had some great stuff from early dredging sites but without a seam you can get a bit disheartened.
