These old boys who are 'touchy' about things they have held onto for decades end up dying, then the son or daughter sells the lot. Daft in my view, life is meant to be lived.
Bloody annoying when you think that collectors are preserving the past of British life, a bygone age, now long gone.
The risk with these hoarders is that someone else will end up dumping everything, not realising.
Hard to believe in this day and age, but still possible. My nephew lives in London; he has no phone, no mobile, no computer, has never looked at eBay, cannot use a computer, no heating - he sits in the kitchen with the oven on...I'm not kidding. He has 14 vintage motorcycles in the house ! a collection of virtually worthless SLR cameras and a collection of military uniforms.
He has no children or brothers or sisters, no one has been in the house for years, completely mad situation. he says its 'not convienent' when I write to him, asking if I can visit.

I couldnt agree more Fred, life's to be lived and those 5-Boys would look much better in my living room than in a stuffy old barn that will get demolished with everything in it when the owner pops it!! Lol

Christ sake, the place is bursting with signs! I bet there's loads of them spread out amongst all those barns. He probably has signs in his house and attic aswell. Surely this is a wind up as it seems to good to be true?,,,

Without a doubt this story hasn't come to an end as yet. What we need to do is to help our fellow collector to reach the promised land and to be able to return to getting some sleep at night.

There must be some chink in the owner's armour that could gain him access legally to that BP Winner/ 5 Boys/ Officer and a Gentleman/ we can all surely see through the grubby window. Perhaps write him a cheque to his favourite charity? or a disclaimer saying the owner wouldn't be liable for any injuries while hunting around?

This topics blown my mind! it's hard enough finding crappy signs these days let alone a 5-boys in what could be a barn full of signs! It reminds me of the halcyon days of collecting in the 80's when signs were plentiful.

By the way, from my experience its pointless asking someone if you can have there signs as as soon as you do their arseholes tighten up and they reply with summat like. "you aint 'avin 'e buye, e's worth a mint", which is actually true in this case...

Good luck Joe,

Do they have any relatives you can talk to? Just to get a word in for when the day comes?

Regards

Al.

I've stopped caring about many things like this. Since I started bottle digging again, I feel as though I am rescuing enough stuff! Having said that we dug another 20ft hole yesterday and the divvie up came to about £15 to be split amongst 5 of us! Did get the top half of a blue lip codd tho!
