This is a Melachrino Hanging Glass Cigarette Sign. This commpany started manufacturing blended cigarettes in Cairo. It is claimed that Lord Kitchener on a visit to Egypt purchased some of the cigarettes and was very pleased with these scented and sweet cigarettes. When Lord Kitchener and the army went to war in South Africa, it is recorded that an order for 60 million cigarettes were sent as well. The company opened a branch in London mainly for retail and in 1927 the Melachrino brand name was sold to Union Tobacco Co of America.
