Afternoon, all.

I'm new to this forum and thought I would share with you this enamel I picked up this morning - I'm absolutely delighted with it.

There is a bit of damage, and most prominently where the man is feeding straw into the engine furnace.

I'm half minded to get this restored, using pictures of another example. Can anyone point me in the direction of a good restorer?

Whilst writing, I am also keen to acquire other steam engine enamels, e.g. the Rustons of Lincoln and Marshall Brothers of Gainsborough, so do please get in touch if your minded to sell.

Regards.

Dunc

G'day Dunc, Did you buy this from Preston services, he had a whole lot of them in various conditions. I think the design of the sign is awesome, fantastic pictorials. Although I'm not normally a fan of foriegn writing, I can definitely live with that.

Here is a picture of one I nearly bought a while back from a guy who had a site called Ads of old, I can't contact him anymore the site he had seems to have been abandoned. Although the condition was fantastic, at 3000 pounds I thought it was a little steep.

Hi Gord.

Yes, I did purchase this sign from Preston Services, for less than half you were quoted for the example you nearly bought, albeit the condition is much better. I'll be really grateful if you can email me that photo.

I know that some people don't like the foreign writing, but for me, it all adds to the story - in this case, a british engineering firm at the top of its game in 1900-1910, exporting its machines all over the world, and note the man feeding straw into the furnace because they didn't have any coal in Argentina! Love it!

I will try adding some images of other steam engine enamels in my 'most wanted' list, though they are very hard to even find...

Regards.

How many did you have to choose from at Preston's, he sent me a list back 3 years ago that had about 16 signs, all in different condition and price. If you want I can forward you that email with all pictures and prices listed.

What's your email address Dunc, so I can send you that picture and the other email.

Cheers Gordo

The sign looks in much better shape than some of the engines he brings back!

I have sent the email onto you Al, Steve I can't find your email address.

The 3000 at the time did include freight costs too, the only problem was back then 3000 pounds was worth AU$7,500, now it's worth AU$5200. So if your out there Ads of old and you still have the sign, I'll take it.

Yes please, Gordo, my email is duncansford@hotmail.com. The chap at Preston Services said he only has one example left in his barn, but whatever the case, I'm delighted with mine! Dunc

Hi

Hi again.

I've finally finished restoring the Ramsomes, and here are the 'before' and 'after' pics for comparison. Bring on the next one I say!
