I thought I would have a bit of fun with this arse wipe, since Ebay won't do anything.

I have bought both of his dodgy listings. He's so dumb, he doesn't even realise that I'm the last guy he tried to rip off. He already sent me a message that the quicker I make the payment, the quicker he can have them sent to me. If I decide I have changed my mind and I don't want them, that's fine with him, as long as I clear the offer, so he can re-list them. Good luck with that peanut, I think I may take as long as I can not to pay you !!! LOL !!!

Does anyone know how long you actually have got to make a payment ?? Hopefully 30 days, until I don't make it.

Gordo

I want to re-open this topic as, despite the warnings, I have just fallen for this clever scammer from India. (He goes under the company name of secondskinstudio and his name is Seema Ratti). I had read about Gordo's experiences (in January) wrt the Buchanan's Black & White but didn't remember Ross's mention of the Brooke Bond sign. Then, the other day I spotted an ebay.com ad for a Brooke Bond Teas 'small spoonful' enamel, which looked just too good to be true! (it was). I knew it had to be a scam but couldn't resist checking it out. Clearly the photos were genuine and show the best (unrestored) example I have ever seen:-

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vintage-A...749.l2649.

One thing, the dimensions he gave in the ad were wrong so I asked him to check. He came back straight away with the correct measurements. And although the photo of the reverse was especially convincing, I then noticed that one of the corners was missing. He said he had clicked on the wrong photo and sent me a new photo which looked OK and which had the correct L/H ratio. So in the end, half convinced, I went ahead on the basis that it was worth the gamble and that anyway I could always get my money back via PayPal.

Then, after making the purchase (at $390 !!!), I found and re-read this topic again, and realised it just couldn't be genuine. He has clearly got the photos from somewhere - although I can't find the item advertised anywhere else on Ebay. So I asked him to prove he owned it by sending me a photo of it together with a newspaper with today's date. Of course, he couldn't, so in the end I just told him I knew he was a scammer, said I'd be reporting him, and demanded an immediate refund. He agreed to cancel the sale but no refund was issued. So today I opened a case with PayPal. I have little doubt I'll be refunded in due course. And I have made a full report to Ebay (to add to those they already have). We'll see if they do anything: I won't hold my breath?

It does make me wonder how this guy thinks he will profit from this type of activity when any buyer will get a refund from PayPal when the item doesn't turn up?

In passing, Ebay did mention something which might possibly be useful. If you scroll down in an ad to the Description line, there is a "Report Item" link on the RH side. If you go to this you can report illegal activity. Probably goes into a black hole but anyway...

Incidentally, PayPal inadvertently gave me the personal email address for Mr Seema Ratti (an appropriate name in the circumstances). Could come in handy, maybe???

A final thought: maybe the Forum should include a separate topic for scams which can be quickly referred back to?

Hope you get your money back okay Deegee! He has amassed 15 negative feedbacks in a year, which takes some doing, including one for an enamel sign which didn't arrive, so you were quite right to be dubious about it!

Hi David. I have no desire to rub salt into your wounds but I'm puzzled as to why you risked your money when you knew from the start  "it was too good to be true"  and  "I knew it had to be a scam".  The sign is on Ebay, it's in India, it's a laughable price, and the guy's name is Ratti ! I hope your money comes back to you . A warning for us all then.

Well, you're right. I was pretty sure it had to be a scam, but it would have been a really great buy and I felt the gamble was worth it. The pictures themselves are of a genuine sign and the best I have seen of this one - including maker's name. I did what checks I could: I couldn't find it advertised anywhere else, and he managed to come up with correct dimensions when asked and a new photo showing a 'correct' reverse. At the time I hadn't been able to relocate this blog so didn't realise it was the same dealer that Gordo had identified. And whatever the shortcomings of Ebay and PayPal, I was always sure I could get my money back. So not really too much of a gamble. And to be fair, I have bought the odd English-made sign from India that is absolutely 'right', so at $390 I was willing to take a chance. (But I have to admit that at the time I didn't know the guy was called Ratti!!!!)

No doubt, not all Indian sellers are scammers, just dillusional about prices.

Having said that, I have won two Paypal cases against dodgy brothers

If you are a " good " seller ............unfortunately you will know to your cost that ebay and PayPal will refund for any reason. It is i would say almost impossible NOT to get your money back if you demand it via PayPal especially for non delivery. If the seller was quickly opening and closing accounts he might get to keep the money BUT PayPal would still have to refund it.

I got swindled out of £70 earlier this year. The buyer claimed the item had not been delivered despite ' signing for it ' in his name at his address confirmed by the post office. Ebay turned down his claim !! He then put in a PayPal dispute saying the item was not as described - interesting !! as he said he did'nt have it !! - So i said fine please return for a full refund .....He did'nt ?

I then questioned PayPal asking them how an item could be NOT as described when he had previously said he did'nt get it. They " waffled " and said they would think about it.

14 days later they refunded the buyer so I lost £70 plus the item !! When questioned further it turned out that if he had paid via a card into PayPal they would have refunded him whatever the situation if he asked for it !!

Buyer beware my ARSE !!
