Hi guys.

My hubby and I have dug on a small scale in the past, but we have recently started up again and have found a huge amount of old bottles and stoneware jars.

Can anyone give any information on the bottles in the photo.

I think the first two long neck bottles are either early castor oil/sauce bottes with the very light green/clear one being the earlier of the two.  Would I be right to think that and would the first one have a 'burst top?'

The bottle to the right is a beer bottle.  The name is South Western Brewery Co, Newton Stewart.  I do know that South Western Brewery only ran for 20 years or so and then acquire along with it's six tied houses in 1925 by Archibald Campbell, edinburgh.

Would this bottle be collectable?

Finally, are there any recommended books that will help us to indentify the dating of bottles either by lip design, base, registration number, logos etc  or even comprehensive websites?

Glad I found this site. It looks absolutely fascinating.
