You probably would have been happy to find one in the 1940's.

I've always found these a bit difficult to get in good condition and been collecting homefront stuff and going to military fairs since the 1980's. Always been expensive. Think their bad condition as always been down to the thin poor quality metal and enamel. Much easier to get are the small Air Raid Wardens Post signs.

They were nearly a bit easier to get from a HORROR STORY, a well know collector and military dealer told me a few years ago. He used to be a rep and went to the offices of a large well known Northern City. He mention to a guy in the offices that he collected and dealt in WW2 homefront items. The guy told him that they were clearing a council yard a fews days previous and came across around 700 of the signs which had been taken down at the end of the war and stored. Needless to say a dash was made to the yard. A guy there told him they had kept one of the signs to display at the yard, the rest went to the scrap. Another dash was made to the scrap yard, but it was too late !!!!

Sorry if this is going to give some members nightmares and sleepless nights !!!!
