It doesn't matter how much they go for. Money is only bits of paper with a picture of the queen on it. |

Too true banjo - when both me and your dad were buying signs from Chris Gordon in Birmingham back in the 70's, £15 was a lot of money to spend. Fortunately we both still have some of the signs we bought then. I think the major thing looking back is that the condition of signs we bought then was superb and that there seemed to be a never ending supply of wonderful old advertising coming out of shops that had been shut up for years. Good point Mick G - £220 today would buy you a decent cigarette packet sign but a mint one would be more like £350 |

Prices are just too much? You can say that again . And, it's not going to change any time soon . It's getting like the crazy world of Railwayana where you make the prices up as you go along. It feels sometimes like there's an element of greed driving it along , human nature being what it is . There's an option available of course . Just .walk.away. I employ that tactic on a regular basis . If I can't see value for money, I'd rather go without it. Call me a cheapskate if you will, but that's how I feel. |

Coincidentally, andjust to prove there IS another side to the coin, a nice condition ,early(1897) Sunlight Soap sign, (wording in a crescent) just gone on ebay for 40 quid , BIN . That looks like a gift to me. So Arkwrights could have a point. |

Did you buy it then TT?!!!! Tried to find it but without any joy, (even under completed listings!) Possibly even a listing error? |

Is that a maker's mark on the bottom right? It's a lovely sign - a bargain. |

Great pick-up Ben,
Here is it's cousin, February 1897 stamping by Chromo. Looks like yours is 597 (May 1897) and Patent, interesting stuff !
