 Hi Collector,

Some very nice showcards. Any chance of a close up of your cigarette cabinet on the wall. Super collection.

Hi Brian, you'll have to come round for that and obviously not just now ! There's a lot more in that room to see, it's 7m x 7m and getting a bit full. I'm a bit reluctant to post close-ups of showcards, I don't want to see my own signs for sale anywhere. I'll have a go at the cig. cab though, cheers, Alan

Couple of pics of the Mitchell's and one of the room between the 2 previous pics. Nothing special in tins but they make a nice display. Signs on right are all tin.

The cabinet is as it came from a local village store barring a coat of wax and 2 finials. It must have hardly been used. The drawers are all divided in the center, allowing 2 brands in each and 14 in total, but only open on 1 side. Not seen this before. Cheers, Alan

 Hi Collector,

That "Mitchell's cabinet is nice with a super pediment and unusual to have each draw split into two brands which held loose cigarettes and which were sold by weight. Many of the brands on the cabinet were first introduced in1897 according to records. The picture posted is the more common Mitchell's cabinet.

Can someone turn  the picture please????

Hi Bacco, thanks for info and cabinet pic. Here's one i had fairly similar, and another I had a long time ago.Poor pics,  I'm photographing prints.  I've a little archive of pieces that have been and gone, could even start a new thread if there's any interest ?  Cheers, Alan

 Hi Collector,

Most manufacturers had their own cabinets for displaying loose cigarettes which were initially sold by weight long before packets and tins. Many of them are ideal for tin or packet collector's to display items in, I have a friend in York and one who lives in North Yorkshire, who have some super cabinets displaying collections of  tins and cigarette packets. I have posted a couple of mine. The Ogden's is missing it's pediment and the F & J Smith's was found in a shop cellar in the Orkney Islands.

Thanks Lummox for turning the photo around.

Both nice cabinets and they are good for displaying tins and packets. My collection of tobacco tins went a long time ago but I may have some pics....

It's interesting that these cabinets were still being made end of the 19th century when sales of machine made cigs in penny packets were going through the roof. I wonder how prices compared and were the cabs. just used for better quality ?  Cheers, Alan

 Hi Collector,

Another couple of cabinets ideal for showing  tin collection: The "GBD" pipe cabinet had a mirror back and glass shelves put in it. Also, the "Kinnear Ltd" was a short lived company taken over by Cope Bros Ltd.
