Apologies for being an old cynic , but that is yet another faded example of the world's most overrated sign. Why do they nearly always look shabby ? I suppose they'll go mad for it and it'll be yet another triumph of hype over substance. |

No need to apologise, I'm the same! They're in my opinion far nicer enamel that I would rather have. |

I agree. One of the dullest and most boring looking signs ever made. Depressing colours. Didn’t one of them sell for about £28,000 a few years ago?

I also agree with the other comments, would love to find one as I wouldn't hesitate to put it out there for sale. |

I'm going to go out on a limb here, but I've always liked that sign. Everybody likes to bash it, but I'd be proud to display it in my collection. Way more than one of those awful 5 Boys Frys jobbies |

Don't think you are going too far out on a limb, Mick . In good nick its a nice sign, a very nice sign but there are so many better signs at a fraction of the alledged worth of the BP winner. The money fetched at one auction £31k seemed to make this popular rare sign into a fabled holy grail with some collectors.
To a certain extent like the 5 boys, its almost like if you collect enamels to a " good " level you have to have a 5 boys in your collection ......again don't get me wrong its a lovely sign ......but would it be in my top 10 I'd have to think about that ?
Hmm ? .................your top ten favourite signs if money was no object !! thats a thought for those long Covid 19 laden TV repeats evenings

I’ve also seen the 30 grander. It is cracking I admit but not for me. I thought this one might be about the 5 grand mark, but who knows? I think the Dunlop one with the car and driver on is a better sign albeit larger. Webb’s factory or Holzapfels for me over the winner. I’d rather have a coloured 5 boys anyday on my wall. |
