Many thanks Deegee for the extra pics.

I thought you may say that as I’ve heard this as well. The fact that the repro’s also mimic the makers names in the same way, is the reason I’ve put off buying any I see. Any more sure-fire ways of telling a real Lipton’s from a repro Lipton’s?

If your Lipton’s are ever looking for a new home, let me know

Cheers

Here's another very rare survivor of the tele genre:

Hi. Almost everything of value is faked these days, not only signs. I made the odd mistake or two to begin with but have learnt lessons. The first thing I look at is the reverse side. Enamel splashes, brush strokes and numbers/stencils are the most helpful. Of course, these can be faked too but there is something about the genuine ones that say a lot. The later signs (1940s on) tend to have fewer enamels streaks. Manufacturing imperfection in the gloss surface, commensurate with age, can also help. But buying 'unseen' is always a problem. Here is the reverse of one of the Liptons.

Hi Lummox. I think mine's from the same batch. Still one of my firm favourites. Early and a great design.

It's also an excellent excuse for not re-decorating! Marcus, the Sheffield Independent still has the auction label on the back from BBR.(2008)Where the bloody hell did that time go?

Sorry this is a bit of an anorak question (proves I’ve been locked up inside for far too long), but I've always wondered if those of you with large wall displays of signs, did you use any planned method in how you laid them out on the wall or did it simply end up being quite random – got a blank bit of wall, find a sign to fit it.

As you guys know, some wall layouts just look so good, while others can look a bit…well you know what I mean. I’ve heard there are interior design techniques for making wall collages look right to the eye and was wondering if anyone here has applied these? Or maybe this takes away from the joy of randomness and the pratical fact of getting new signs as you go along.

I have a little task planned myself to do this with a number of signs on a wall and must avoid making the wall look like swiss cheese by mounting, moving, remounting, moving to get it looking right. It also needs to pass the looking good test of my very important other half.

Cheers

Today's offering... a very small number of these were found, all in stunning condition. Is there more of a story surrounding the didcovery those UK Tea's? Were they above a shop - anybody know?

Hi Phone Guy, don't know what category my wall layout comes into, but I went with the " get some signs and see what fits where " approach.
