Looks "right" to me so far as can judge from photos (???) but never seen it before. A maker's mark would be nice. Had a BIN price when first listed. |

It looks a little faded, or is that just me. However its still a cracking sign and just over £1000, with 9 days still to go. |

Such a small size, where would this have been displayed back in the day? Perhaps it was part of a bar wall, I have seen enamel used like tiles in old buildings? But then again, it is quite faded, so must have been outdoors? |

players looks like an 'old old' sign , never seen another so can't add too much -- sailors eaten a few pies thou. For me the not so rare wills star is more pleasing to the eye with a bit of colour . |

Interesting, apparently the Sailor debuted in 1883 and the life preserver was added about 5 years later. That means this sign cannot be older than 1888, so i think the seller is probably bang-on with the 1890 estimate. |

I can understand the question from Mick.
But in this case I think the letters are not suppost to be red? |

The "rope" around the life preserver is darker brown on the bottom right and lighter everywhere else. The "U" shows signs of a deeper red. It wouldn't be a vibrant colour red, probably more of a burgandy or darker brown. |
