If there is not fading of the "Players Navy Cut" wording, then why is there colour differences and white showing through in a bunch of areas on the letters.............

I would bet my left nut on this.....

I don’t know how to put a picture in this forum but I can show you a pic that puts your left nut in a precarious position! Lol

Found this image on the internet. Not clue as to origin - although it looks like a stamp??? However, the Regn No. would date the design to 1890-91

Well that certainly looks a whole hell of a lot better. Is that a play on the camera settings or is that the way it look in person? Great colours.

Even with the higher resolution image - the main lettering is quite mottled/blotchy/uneven; so some kind of pigment change must have taken place - ie fading. Or if not fading some other kind of ageing process. A sign in its original condition wouldn't have this kind of mottled/blotchy pigment. So it seems a bit weird that the general consensus is that this sign is unfaded.

Super great sign, you have to love the early depictions of the hero. Cheers. Al

Clearly faded, reds one of the first colours to go,it would have been more vibrant than that

Red always goes first on cars too - you always see more old red cars that have gone matt than any other colour.
