100% not cropped cut outs Mick, the back of mine has the drips running from the edges into the centre, and look at the thin yellow border what other hero sign has that background, there is enamel in two of the holes. As far as I am aware there is no other Hero sign with the Imperial Enamel makers mark? other than that eluded to by Banjo on page 3 above, can anybody confirm makers name?.

Mine is the same Hoarder, with the pattern of drips running from the edges at the back and Mick G - I have seen and compared mine to cut outs and both the fronts and backs were different! As you know the roundel on the large Players is against a white background and these have a yellow edge, also the look of Hero is different to the cutouts I have seen in the past. These original Players roundels are rare survivors and were used on the early omnibuses circular stairwells. Like Hoarders mine is also 17 inches across and has the fixing holes in the same places.

Yes agree with that, just found it rather strange that a makers name would be inserted within the curtilage of the design rather than outside on the borders edge. This got me thinking that maybe it could be reference to the Imperial Tobacco Co rather than the Imperial Enamel Co?.

Still rearching but the evidence suggest in favour of it being Imperial Enamel as they were based in Birmingham in1896 ( dont know when they were formed ) and Imperial Tobacco (formed in 1901) had HQ in Bristol in 1904.

If there is a get together in the afternoon after the summer BBR fair (as in pre-pandemic years) perhaps, Richard ,you could bring along your round Hero sign and I'll bring the square one. It'll be good to see them together. And also to get opinions on whether mine is faded.

"I think it says Imperial Enamel co Ltd" Great, thanks Hinks.

One last question has anybody got any history on Imperial Enamel? date of incorporation etc, much appreciated.
